The Balearic Islands offer a huge potential for the implementation of e-mobility, in which the roll-out of the electric vehicle represents a step forward towards a more sustainable economical and environmental model, as the replacement of combustion engine vehicles by EVs implies a significant saving in fossil fuels and a reduction in CO2 emissions.
The Balearics offer the ideal territory for promoting the electric vehicle (EV) and smart grids, both due to their unique geography with short distances and the need to optimise scant energy resources within the framework of commitment to tourism. This is undoubtedly an opportunity for sustainable development and energy efficiency on the islands.
The Balearics grid system has distinct geographical and electrical characteristics (it is a system that is connected to the peninsula but not integrated), making it particularly interesting for the research, development and application of smart grids combined with the management of electric vehicles mainly for the tourism sector.
