Undigen, Functionality of Wave-powered Electricity Generation Systems, is an offshore demonstration project on an innovative system of power generation by waves, fully developed in Spain. The project is led by Wedge Global with the participation of FCC, CIEMAT and the Canary Islands Oceanic Platform (PLOCAN).
The UNDIGEN project has been designed as an offshore demonstration project (located at a distance of approximately one nautical mile from the north-east coast of the island of Gran Canaria) on an innovative system of wave-generated electricity, developed in Spain.
During the first half of 2014 this project aims to test out a Wedge wave power converter at the PLOCAN (Gran Canaria) test site. The converter, with an innovative 200 kW (W200) linear generation system, is a stage prior to launching a wave energy power plant with technology which is 100% Spanish; a precursor to possible future commercial supply of electricity to islands and/or coastal areas with difficult access and high generating costs.
