Repsol has started producing gas in the Kinteroni field in Peru, one of the ten key projects within the company’s Strategic Plan for 2012-2016.
This field is located in the department of Cuzco, east of Lima, and will initially produce about 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent, an amount expected to double by 2016.
Repsol has a 54% stake in the project, which it shares with the Brazilian company, Petrobras.
This field, discovered in 2008 (one of the world’s five most important discoveries this year), is located in Block 57, where Repsol has discovered another field called Sagari. The resource estimates in this block are between 2 to 3 billion cubic feet (TCF) of gas.
With the launch of Kinteroni, the company has started production in seven of the ten key projects within the 2012-2016 Plan. The other six are located in Brazil, USA, Russia, Bolivia, Spain and Venezuela.
Repsol has increased its production by an average of 7% annually since 2011, to reach 346 thousand barrels per day in 2013.
