Biollano: a 50 MW biomass plant in Puertollano owned by ENCE

At the start of last January, a new low emissions and high efficiency, 50 MW biomass plant was inaugurated in Puertollano (Ciudad Real province), constructed in record time in this Manchegan town by ENCE. The origins of the project date back to 2017, when ENCE acquired the site of the old Elcogás power plant on which to erect a new biomass plant. Four years after Elcogás closed, ENCE has completed its project to give a new use to the former coal-fired plant.

The contribution of Biollano to decarbonising the energy system is one of the main reasons why it is being seen as an example of the fair energy transition. It is also making a huge contribution to the area: thanks to its high capacity for creating direct, indirect and induced jobs (around 27 jobs per MW installed), as well as helping to maintain quality industrial employment, while boosting the local economy…
