China operates two more CSP plants since December

China 6th large-scale commercial CSP plant, CPECC Hami 50 MW molten salt tower CSP project, was successfullly connected to the grid on December 29th, 2019. Two days later, Lanzhou Dacheng Dunhuang 50 MW molten salt Fresnel CSP project was successfully connected to the grid, becoming the first demonstration Fresnel CSP project in China, and the world largest solar thermal power plant taking Fresnel CSP technology. This project made the total capacity of large-scale CSP projects in China reach 400 MW at the end of 2019, according to CSP Focus.

CPECC Hami 50 MW molten salt tower CSP project is developed by state-owned company China Power Engineering Consulting Group Corporation (CPECC) and the EPC contract was awarded to its subsidiary Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Company (NWEPDI). As the only CSP pilot project in China Xinjiang Province, CPECC Hami CSP project is located in the highest latitude – 43°North. With a total investment of RMB 1,580 million, the CPECC Hami project is equipped with 13 hours’ molten salt thermal storage system.

Lanzhou Dacheng Dunhuang CSP plant was selected amongst China first batch of 20 demonstration CSP projects in September 2019, taking innovative Fresnel CSP technology which is owned by the developer Lanzhou Dacheng Company, and molten salt acts as the role of both heat transfer and storage fluid. The thermal electricity storage is designed to be 15 hours. The project officially started construction on June 29, 2018 in Dunhuang CSP Industrial Park, Northwest China. Zhongnan Engineering Co., Ltd of Power China acted as EPC contractor and Power China Leasing Co., Ltd provided debt funding.

As CSP Focus reports, at the end of 2019 China had seven large-scale CSP projects with total capacity of 400 MW in operation: CGN Delingha 50 MW parabolic trough, Shouhang Dunhuang 100 MW molten salt tower and SUPCON Delingha 50 MW molten salt tower CSP projects were completed by the end of 2018; Power China Gonghe 50 MW molten salt tower and Luneng Haixi 50 MW molten salt tower CSP projects, started operation in September 2019; CPECC Hami 50 MW molten salt tower CSP project and Lanzhou Dacheng Dunhuang 50 MW molten salt Fresnel CSP plants were connected to the grid in December, 2019. Except the Luneng Haixi project, the other six are all amongst China first batch of 20 demonstration CSP projects.
