Seaway Heavy Lifting (SHL) has signed contracts with DONG Energy for the transportation and installation of three offshore substations in the UK. The offshore substations will support the power transmission of Burbo Bank Extension, Race Bank and Walney Extension offshore wind farms.
For the execution of the projects Seaway Heavy Lifting will utilise both the Stanislav Yudin (2,500 Mt lift capacity) and the Oleg Strashnov (5,000 Mt lift capacity) crane vessels.
These contracts follow on the recent contracts of the substations for Sandbank and Wikinger offshore wind farms, in Germany; and the successful installation of the Westermost Rough offshore substation in 2014 for developer Westermost Rough Ltd. of which DONG Energy owns the majority shares. SHL has now executed or has a backlog of a total of 25 offshore wind farm substations.
