The Joint Venture made up of Recursos de la Biomasa-Rebi and Cofely has been awarded the Heating Network which will provide heating and domestic hot water using biomass to 24 Valladolid University (UVA) buildings, 3 buildings belonging to Valladolid City Council and 4 belonging to the regional government of Castille & León. The tender award to build the Thermal Plant and to develop the Heating Grid took place in September 2013 and is worth €7 million, of which €5 million are being spent on the building work and the remaining €2million on management and maintenance. The Grid will be ready in 12 months.
The project’s cornerstone was laid during an inauguration ceremony which shows citizens that it will soon be a reality and which symbolises the beginning of construction work.
Altogether, 14 MW of capacity will supply the District Heating; the building will provide thermal service to the 31 buildings in the northern zone of Valladolid municipal area, thanks to the thermal energy from biomass generators, the chip storage silo, the heat distribution tubing network and the remaining components required.
The Thermal Plant will be located on the plot next to the Lucía building on Valladolid University’s Miguel Delibes campus. The location has been specifically chosen to make the most of the advantages of this plot forming part of the university campus.
