Nordex to supply 56 wind turbines for a new wind farm in Mexico

The project will have an installed capacity of 168 MW and will supply power to 350,000 homes

Nordex Group will supply 56 AW125/3000 wind turbines for a new project in Mexico. The “El Cortijo” wind farm, located in Tamaulipas in the north-east of the country, will be built by Acciona Energía.

Awarded last September, this order comprises 56 wind turbines each 120-metre tower with a capacity of 3 MW. They will be delivered and installed in 2017. The “El Cortijo” wind farm is scheduled to come online in 2018 and will produce electricity for some 350,000 households in the region.

In the first bidding round of this year, Acciona Energía was awarded a contract to provide 585.7 GWh of energy. This contract will form part of the “El Cortijo” wind farm.

The company operates turbines in Mexico with a capacity of 556.5 MW, which equates to around one fifth of the installed market volume. In total, AW turbines with a capacity of some 860 MW are connected to the grid in Mexico.
