PHOTON: PV and CSP thanks to a pioneering project

The PHOTON project sets out to implement new technological developments in CSP tower plants in order to reduce the cost of the solar field and the receiver. The project started in late 2017, financed by the European Commission through the Eurostars-2 programme, within the framework of Horizon 2020. It is currently in the final phase of validation testing. Tewer is leading an international consortium that is working together to develop a new heliostat prototype.

As is well known, CSP tower plants comprise thousands of heliostats that surround the tower and concentrate the heat on to one point on it, achieving temperatures of up to 1,000°C.
