Spain will host for the first time the holding of the World Hydrogen Energy Conference, -WHEC-, the main worldwide event on the use of hydrogen as an energy vector, which will celebrate its 21st edition in Zaragoza from 13rd to 16th June. A meeting that will bring together business professionals, research centres and public and private entities of reference in the hydrogen sector and other related industrial sectors.
Organized by the Hydrogen Spanish Association (AeH2), with the collaboration of the Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon (FHa) and the Government of Aragon, and under the auspices of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE), The main objective of WHEC is to promote the widespread use of hydrogen technologies, providing information and exhibition of projects from all over the world, as well as facilitating networking between all hydrogen users.
Among others, on 13rd June, the interest will be focused on fuel cell electric vehicles technologies (FCEV) and hydrogen infrastructure with responsible for BMW Group and Toyota Motor Europe; on Tuesday 14th, National Hydrogen Mobility Strategies will be presented by the most significant representatives belonging of world institutions, such as the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), California Fuel Cell Partnership (CaFCP), Canadian Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association (CHFCA) and the National Organisation Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NOW GmbH). In addition, on Wednesday 15th, another of the challenges facing the sector as it is hydrogen storage will be covered in a session carried out by Filip Smeets, executive director of Hydrogenics Europe and Simon Bourne, chief technology officer of ITM Power.
Exhibition Areas and Parallel Events
As an additional activities, during the days of the conference, a Trade Fair will be included in where showcases, new prototypes, products and services of automotive industry companies and of hydrogen production, development, storage, transport and end-uses will be exposed, as well as parallel events for the participants, offering an opportunity to establish direct contact with the key industry players and decision makers in the hydrogen and fuel cells sector.
The World Hydrogen Energy Conference – WHEC- is the global reference event for the study and monitoring of this energy technology. Since its first edition in Miami (Florida, USA) in 1976, the Conference has been hosted every two years in different parts of the world. Essen (Germany), Toronto (Canada) and Gwangju (South Korea) were the last three cities that welcomed this congress.
At present, it is developed a global movement in connection with the introduction of hydrogen as an energy vector in different applications, but especially in vehicles powered by fuel cells, systems that transform energy from the hydrogen stored into electricity.
Its high energy density, its environmental advantages – there is no emission of CO2 or other pollutants in its end-use in vehicles – and the security of supply, have turned this source into energy for the future, therefore some of the major car manufacturers have already launched into the market fuel cell powered models.
