The development and continued scalability of wind power technology is playing a key role in the energy transition. With the new EnVentus platform V162-6.8 MW wind turbine, Vestas is looking to lead the expansion of wind power, taking advantage of modular product development to offer improved customisation for wind farms with medium and high wind speeds.
The V162-6.8 MW offers flexible outputs of 6.5 MW, 6.8 MW and 7.2 MW, in addition to an increased annual energy production (AEP) of up to 7% compared with the previous model, the V162-6.2 MW, depending on specific project conditions. Its siteability is boosted thanks to the optional larger CoolerTop. The increase in performance has been achieved thanks to the powertrain and power conversion enhancements of EnVentus.

The design of the V162-6.8 MW also benefits its transport and installation, as it uses the new modular nacelle concept from Vestas. Its structure is divided into a primary nacelle, which contains the powertrain, and a side compartment housing the power system that includes the converter and transformer. Both compartments are designed dimensionally to adapt to industrial logistics standards for transport by road, rail and sea, reducing the need for a specialised treatment.
The EnVentus platform is the new generation of Vestas technology. Based on the proven technology of the 2 MW, 4 MW and 9 MW platforms, it uses their advanced modularity to meet customisation requirements more efficiently. Since the EnVentus platform was launched in 2019, Vestas has received orders for over 5 GW in thirteen different markets on four continents.
